The British 60-gun, HMS Lion, met the privateer ship, Du Tielly, in the Atlantic. Wind trapped the Du Tielly within the range of the Lion's broadside. For nearly two hours, cannon fire roared across the water. The Du Tielly, took the brunt of the damage. With her masts shattered and a burning deck she struck her colors just before sunset. Both ships were heavily damaged and the Lion could not pursue. Unbeknownst to the crew of the Lion, the Du Tielly was on an important mission involving Bonnie Prince Charles. If this sparks your imagination and you want to learn more, you'll enjoy my novel The Enslaved, which brings the 1700s to life across the ships and ports of the Atlantic. Grab a copy here.
