Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? You’re in the right place. Whether you’re curious about my books, the history behind the stories, how I write, or what kind of golf clubs I use—I’ve gathered some of the most common questions here. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to reach out through the contact form. I always enjoy hearing from readers and fellow history buffs.

What advice do you have for aspiring writers?

Read what you like and write.

Are there any particular authors or books that have influenced your writing style?

David Gemmell, Bernard Cornwell, Steven Lawhead and R.A. Salvatore.

How do you handle writer's block or moments of doubt?

I try to write through writes block, meaning even if I was writing nonsense I would consider it an accomplishment because I was writing.  I sit with doubt until until I figure out why it is there.

Are there any specific themes or messages you aim to convey through your writing?

In The Enslaved, I thought about vengeance and betrayal.

What challenges do you face while writing, and how do you overcome them?

I try not to be judgmental with my writing process or what I am actually writing.  As long as I am actually writing it is a win.

How do you develop your characters? Are they based on real people or entirely fictional?

My characters are fictional.

Can you tell us about your writing process? Do you have any rituals or routines?

I become very focused and set a routine.  I force myself to write at least three hours every morning.  I can write more but I do not let myself write less.

What inspired you to become a writer?

My dad's love of reading inspired my reading and I thought I could do this.
